Curious about Hyaluronic Acid? Here's What You Need To Know.

If you’re a skincare enthusiast like us, chances are you’ve seen the ingredient “hyaluronic acid” appear more than once during your search for ultimate skin hydration. Not sure exactly what it is or how it works? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

So what exactly IS hyaluronic acid and how does it work?

Although the name might sound scary and complicated, Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is actually quite the opposite. In fact, you and HA have known each other and been friends your whole life (you just haven’t realized it till now)! Simply, HA is a naturally occurring substance in our body, responsible for keeping our skin feeling soft, supple and hydrated. HA works by aiding our skin’s ability to retain water molecules and is the reason why our skin was so hydrated and plump as a child. HA’s superpower lies in just how much water it helps our skin retain - in one study up to 1000 times its own weight in water!

Since more than 50% of our body’s naturally occurring HA lies in our skin, it makes what we expose our skin to extremely important if we want HA to stay. We’ve all heard how important sunscreen is right? Well, it turns out that UV rays are one of the biggest culprits in causing a rapid deposition of HA. This means the more UV we expose ourselves to the greater the need for HA in our skin. Unfortunately, over time our body's natural production of HA decreases, which is why our skin tends to become more dry and less elastic as we age. Without HA to help our skin retain water, the harder it is for our bodies to stay moisturized and keep its elasticity.

HA + Skylar Body:

At Skylar we believe in creating quality products that not only smell amazing, but also equally perform in efficacy. HA acts as a humectant in our Body Lotion and Wash to help your skin feel dewy, hydrated and renewed. It's naturally hydrating properties help maintain the moisture levels in our skin, improving elasticity by plumping and reducing fine lines, while simultaneously protecting new skin from losing its supple and soft glow. We’ve formulated our products to deliver the amazing benefits of HA, while also being clean, hypoallergenic and cruelty free.

Infused with the yummy scents we’re known for and packed with sensational moisture boosting ingredients, Skylar Body eco-friendly products do good and feel even better.
