Red wine, white wine, and blue waters! Happy Fourth of July to our Skylar customers in the United States! The fourth is one of our favorite holidays for a multitude of reasons. Nothing sounds better than a day off, a barbecue, and spending time with loved ones. When it comes to the fourth, we have a few must-haves: refreshing cocktails and fresh scents. Combining July’s hot sun and big crowds creates an environment conducive for some serious body odor! That being said, Skylar has got you covered with our non-toxic and clean ingredient deodorant and summer fragrances. Here are our must-haves for an epic fourth! 

Skylar’s crowd-pleasing cocktail list:



Red Firecracker Cocktail:

1 cup of pineapple juice

1/4 cup of maraschino cherry juice 

1 bottle champagne

Orange slices (for a pretty garnish!)

 

Blue Lagoon Margarita:

2 limes, sliced into wedges

salt, for rimming glasses

1/4 cup Blue Curacao

3 oz. tequila

3 oz. triple sec

1/3 cup lime juice

1 can seltzer

2 cup ice

We can’t choose between Capri or Isle! This duo gives you the best of both worlds and is a must-have for your fourth plans. Let’s talk about self care. Whether you’re a workaholic or someone that prefers to take it easy breezy, there’s no denying the importance of self care. Nowadays, it seems the word “self care” gets thrown at us from every corner. It’s on every spa site, yoga studio, and cleverly marketed chocolate bar, which begs the question, “What really constitutes self care”? 


We’d like to think of the practice of self care as beginning with, you guessed it, one’s self. The gentler we are to ourselves, the kinder we are to our bodies and minds, the greater our capacity to love ourselves and ultimately one another. In light of this, we’ve put together a list of our favorite self care habits that can be done anytime and (almost) anywhere. 
 
1. Don’t Start the Day Off Running 
The alarm goes off. Time for work. You go through the motions frantically - shower, change, coffee, breakfast, send the kids to school, feed the pets, grab your bag and you’re out the door. Mornings are rare moments in the day when we actually have some time to ourselves alone, so why do we spend it rushing around in a haze? Try waking up a half hour earlier to set your intentions for the day and enjoy some "you" time. This simple gesture, either thought through quietly or written down, can have a beautiful impact on the rest of your day. Some of our favorite "me" times include listening to slow jams (anything by the Lumineers really), lathering up our favorite hydrating body wash in the shower, and experimenting with different scent layerings for the day. We’d love to hear some of your daily intentions or self soothing practices, email us your thoughts! 


2. Learn to Say No
 Listen, we get it, it’s hard to say no. Hard? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely. When we give too much of ourselves to the people around us, whether it be friends, family or a significant other, we may forgo the things that make us happy to please others.  Here’s our philosophy on this, you can only give your best, if you feel your best. Next time you’re pulled into doing something and you feel you can’t say no, remember this: you can’t fill someone else’s cup if yours is empty. Start saying no, and in time you’ll find how much easier it is to say yes.


3. Drink More Water
We feel this one hardly needs an explanation, I mean, who can deny the importance of staying hydrated? Not only does water keep you feeling more awake, helps with your body’s ability to recuperate and maintain homeostasis, it’s also a fantastic way to truly care for yourself from within. Sometimes, it’s the simplest habits that are the most important. Next time you reach for that fourth cup of coffee, try pouring yourself a cup of sparkling water instead. To jazz things up a bit, we recommend adding a few slices of lemon (aids indigestion), cucumber or sprigs of mint.

Bring the vacation to you with this decadent summer meal. From the Hawaiian Islands to the Carribean, these recipes are sure to leave you asking for seconds. 

Tropical Salmon with Mango Salsa and Coconut Rice

The health benefits of salmon are widely known. Salmon is high in Omega-3 fatty acids and loaded with vitamins and nutrients.   

    Grilled Salmon

    Ingredients:
    • Salmon fillets
    • Olive oil 
    • Lime
    • Garlic 
    Directions:
      1. Whisk together lime juice and zest, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper in large baking dish.
      2. Place the salmon in a baking dish and let it marinate for 30 to 60 minutes.
      3. While the salmon grills, start working on the coconut rice and mango avocado salsa.

        Coconut Rice

        Ingredients:
        • Coconut Water 
        • Canned coconut milk 
        • Jasmine rice 
        Directions:
          1. In a medium saucepan bring coconut water, coconut milk, rice and salt to a boil. 
          2. Cover and simmer until liquid has been absorbed for around 20 minutes. Fluff with a fork, then let it rest 5 minutes.

              Mango Avocado Salsa

              Ingredients:
              • Mango 
              • Red bell pepper 
              • Red onion 
              • Avocado 
              • Cilantro and lime 
              • Olive oil and coconut water
              Directions:
              1. While the salmon is grilling prepare the mango salsa. In a medium bowl toss together mango, bell pepper, cilantro, red onion, avocado, lime juice, olive oil, and coconut water. Season with salt and pepper.
              2. Serve salmon warm with coconut rice and top with avocado mango salsa.

              Piña Colada Spritzer

              There's no better way to embrace a vacation than with coconut and pineapple. This sparkling and fun drink will add fun to any festivity. Make it spicy with a splash of rum. 

              Ingredients:
              • 2 tbsp Coconut Milk
              • 3 tbsp Pineapple Juice
              • Ice
              • Agave Syrup
              • Unsweetened coconut flakes (for decoration)  
              Directions: 

              Combine all ingredients into your favorite glass with ice. Blend and enjoy!
