1. Get in a relaxed position, and start to focus on your breathing. You should keep the breathing deep and consistent (think Darth Vader) and avoid shallow and rapid breathing.

2. Start in child's pose. Legs bent to either side of you, fall forward, and bring your arms overhead. Breathe.

3. Slowly, get onto your hand and knees for table top pose. Make sure you have a flat back and are returning to your breathe. Arch your back and lift your head, moving your body slight forward. Then round your spine and tuck the head. Do this back and forth a few times. (Cat/Cow pose).

4. Now slowly stand up one vertebrate at a time. Keep your eyes closed on this one as your stretch your arms overhead and continue to breathe. Bring your hands to heart center and stay like this for a few moments. Allow for your breathing to become quieter as you sink into a more relaxed state.

5. Now with feet shoulder distance apart, slowly reach for your toes (or shins) and remember to continue breathing with the same cadence. Stay like this for a few seconds, swinging your arms if it feels comfortable to do so.

6. Reach your legs back and utilize your core as your settle into plank position. Hold for 30 seconds, shifting your weight from the side of your left and right foot for added an added challenge to your obliques.

7. Lastly, release your plank and lay flat on your back with arms and legs outstretched. Close your eyes and flip your palms skyward. Breathe deeply here 5x. You are strong, you are beautiful, you are enough......Shavasana.

1. Candles and a Bubble Bath

  • Whether it’s a casual Tuesday evening, or a romantic Saturday night in, bubble baths are a fun (and easy) way to enjoy some quality time together. Try one of our signature Skylar Candles to place alongside your tub. Not only will they add a romantic glow to the room, the scent will transport you into pure bliss. For extra relaxation, try adding a few drops of lavender or jasmine essential oils into your tub.

    2. Candlelit Dinner in the Backyard

For your next date night in, try enjoying dinner outside for a change. If you are able to, plan to eat dinner around 7-7:30 and take advantage of the beautiful sunset (the inspiration behind our Skylar watercolor designs!). Afterwards, cuddle up and share a candlelit dessert. (We recommend trying a molten chocolate lava cake, or if you’re feeling extra adventurous try making matcha raspberry macarons found here). You can also bring a small picnic blanket to the backyard and stargaze together. It's finally time to put your backyard to good use!

You’ll be surprised by how simple changes like these can make your evening together all the more special.

    3. Try a new recipe: Make your own sushi

Venture outside of your comfort zone with this fun date night-in idea: Make your own sushi! This collaborative and fun culinary experience will have you and your partner laughing the entire way through. For an exciting spin, try challenging your partner to a timed contest, and see which one of you crafts the superior roll.

  • Ready to commit - check out this guide (with step by step instructions and a sushi roll cheat sheet) and get rolling.

Pro tip: Use our empty candles to hold the extra sauces (perfect for soy sauce dipping).

    4. Make cocktails with your candle holder

After the kids are asleep, what better way to wind down the evening and share a special moment with the one you love than sharing an evening beverage. Instead of the traditional glass of red wine, we suggest crafting your very own signature drink. This little activity is perfect for a little one-on-one bonding time, and best of all- you can celebrate your newest creation with a toast.  Pro Tip: Our Skylar Candles are perfect for holding your drink inventions. Just clean the empty Candle with some mild soap and viola, sip responsibly!

Here are our recommendations for each of our Skylar Signature Scents: Coral: Coral Crush Arrow: Arrow Aviation Isle: Isle of Dreams , Meadow: Meadow Mule

    5. Vintage Movie Throwback

Try kicking movie night up a notch by making it a vintage themed evening. Rules: Put the phones away and enjoy some quality time together watching the black and white classics. Instead of popcorn, indulge in some old school classics like Milk Duds, Cracker Jacks and Moon Pies! (Here is a great website for finding nostalgic treats). For added authenticity, try setting up a projector to display the movie instead of streaming online.

We personally recommend watching “Roman Holiday”. Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn? Swoon.

The idea of Skylar Body was inspired by real moms. When our founder, Cat Chen, realized that her daughter was allergic to Cat's beloved traditional perfumes, she went searching for a solution. She couldn't find a hypoallergenic option that she loved, and so she began talking to other moms. Soon, she realized women everywhere were struggling to find scented products that they loved and that were healthy for them and their family. That's how the idea of Skylar was born. And we are so thankful for all of the women and mothers who have supported us then and ever since.

We wanted to do something special for Mother's Day this year, and wanted to pay homage to who inspired our brand - mothers. We asked real women to tell us how their moms have inspired them to become who they are today. Because at the end of the day, we are all #inspiredbymoms. Whether she's your own mom, a mother figure or both. Happy Mother's Day, loves!

Spring cleaning. It's something we know we need to do. But how do we start?

We think we're finally ready after reading this article by Functional Medicine Practitioner, William Cole, D.C., on how he tackled Spring cleaning this year. Inspired by one of our favorite books, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, we found the below tips super useful.

    Detox your closet.

We know you've already detoxed your scent, but it's time to look at your closet. Those shorts from 7 years ago that you keep telling yourself you will wear and are just waiting for the perfect occasion? It's time to let them go. The key to this detox is to hold up each piece of clothing in your closet and ask yourself "does this give me joy". If the answer is no, it's time to move on.

    Organize those hangers.

There is nothing more calming than opening your closet doors to see a rainbow of colors from white to red to blue with nothing out of place. The pros say to take a stab at organizing your closet by color via the Kondo method. For us, we say just organize your closet in the way that works for you - as long as there's a system. Pants to shorts to dresses - why not?

    Move to the drawers.

We always find drawers to be so difficult to keep organized. Seriously, how do you do it? It turns out, the Kondo method is the solution. Try sushi rolling your clothes and then organizing them by color. It will change your life.

A clean bedroom means a clean mind for us. Happy cleaning, loves!

We're big believers in self-care at Skylar, but we often struggle to find the time. To make sure we are still making a moment of zen for ourselves as we go about the day, we've come up with a quick 5 minute self-care fix that even works at the office!

    1. Shut down your laptop, turn off your phone, and find a quiet space.

    2. While standing up, take 10 long deep breaths. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.

    3. Turn your head to the left, then to the right.

    4. Lean your head to the left, then to the right.

    5. Roll your neck forward gently. Do 3 neck rolls slowly.

    6. Roll your shoulders 10 times.

    7. Raise your hands up to the sky.

    8. Lean to the left then lean to the right with hands above your head.

    9. Sit down on the floor, cross legged.

    10. Take 10 more deep breaths.

Simple but oh-so relaxing. Take that moment of zen!
